 Frequently asked questions

  • Bookings can be made via the online booking portal or by contacting us via email or text.

  • Yes, we welcome and encourage new clients to choose Emslie Psychology to begin their healing journey.

The focus of Emslie Psychology is on providing top quality psychological treatment and support for adults in the community aged 21 - 68.

As the Psychology Wellness Centre is located next to a childcare centre in Narre Warren North, we are unable to see people who have a history of violent offending or crimes against children. Accordingly, if you need assistance for these issues or require assessment and reports for court or other legal matters, we encourage you to seek an alternate service that can help you with those particular needs.

  • The therapeutic process is different for everyone, so the number of sessions you may need will depend on your individual circumstances. It often ranges from 6 -12 sessions (for recent issues, stress and anxiety, or single incident trauma) to 2 years (when dealing with complex childhood trauma, recurrent and/or persistent mental health issues).

During the initial active phase of treatment, sessions are typically held weekly to build and maintain momentum. As symptoms start to reduce and you're making progress towards your goals, sessions change to fortnightly, then monthly to ensure sustained change and prevent relapse. We then schedule a final 3-month booster and check-in session to make sure you're happy and on track with your goals before we complete treatment and close the episode of care.

Together, we will review your progress throughout the journey, and your therapist will assist in finding the best approach to meet your needs, making any adjustments along the way if needed.

  • No, Emslie Psychology does not offer bulk billing due to the nature of the appointments and consultations.

  • No, Emslie Psychology does not currently offer the comprehensive and specialised assessments required to formally diagnose neurodevelopmental conditions such as Autism Spectrum Disorder and ADHD. However, we work with lots of clients who have these diagnoses.

If you and/or therapist suspects that you may have either of these conditions, a screening test will be offered to you. The results can then be shared with your GP and a referral sought to a psychiatrist or more specialized service for diagnosis and additional treatment options, when appropriate.
